Way Better

I visited the Natural Energy Lab with my students yesterday. The lab makes electricity, fresh water and grows food using cold water pumped from the deep sea. Changing the temperature of the water (simply by bringing it to the surface), creates steam/water vapor which, in a confined situation, is enough to run turbines, air-condition buildings and irrrigate plants from the condensation that drips off pipes run through the garden. The coldness of the pipes even tricks the plants into thinking it's perpetually spring! One of my students remarked that she feels "...way better about the future now."
